Contribute to the MAP Academy

Over the last two years, the MAP Academy has been building an open-access and non-profit platform where people can freely access well-researched, reliable, jargon-free educational materials on the histories of art from South Asia.

We publish new articles, glossaries and blogs every week, and are in the process of producing several Courses. All of our entries need to be illustrated so that our readers and audiences form a better understanding of the subject matter.

We are now inviting contributions in the form of visual materials that will help us continue this work.

For our first open call, we are looking for pictures and videos illustrating South Asia’s textile and craft practices. These could be images of finished textiles and crafts products, as well as photographs and video recordings of raw materials, tools, processes, costumes, artisans and communities. If you think that your work could supplement the research we do at the MAP Academy, please follow the steps below to submit your work and be a part of our initiative.

If you are submitting images, please make sure that your work meets the following criteria:

  1. The photographs should be your original work
  2. Images should be high quality and the image resolution should not be less than 2500-4000 pixels on the longest side, at least 72 DPI
  3. Images should show the subject matter clearly without any visual distractions
  4. You should be able to provide an accurate 1-2 line description for the image
  5. You should be willing to share your photographs and videos under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-ShareAlike License.

  5. You should be willing to share your photographs and videos under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-ShareAlike License.

Selection process

If your work meets our criteria, please fill out the form below, which also includes a request for samples or links to your work online. Our team will review all submissions and determine how your work can visually supplement our existing resources, such as Encyclopedia of Art entries, Online Courses, Blog and Instagram posts. If we select your work for current or future projects, or articles, a member of our team will then reach out to you for permissions on the email ID shared by you on the google form. At that stage, you will be asked to share the images and video files with us. Please note that we may not be able to acknowledge every submission, but you will definitely hear from us if we plan to use your works in our project.

How your work will be featured

Selected works will be used to illustrate existing and upcoming Encyclopedia of Art articles and glossaries, blog posts as well as our Online Courses. All images and videos will be duly credited to you and the copyrights will remain with you. Click here to see how your work will be featured across our platform.

Share a link to your photographs or videos here.
