Commissioned in 1582 by the Mughal emperor Akbar, it is a Persian prose translation of all eighteen books of the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata. Due to the epic’s large size, consisting of over hundred thousand verses, the Razmnama (The Book of War) was an abridged rather than an exact translation. It was completed between 1584 and 1586.
