Located in New Delhi, PHOTOINK is notable for being one of the very few galleries that specialise in curating and exhibiting Indian photography. 

PHOTOINK was established by Devika Daulet-Singh in 2001 as a photo agency and publication design studio. In its early years, it syndicated material, such as portrait photographs, to publications in Europe and the United States of America. By 2003, it had begun holding exhibitions of work in rented spaces and selling photographic prints. In 2008, it established its own gallery premises in New Delhi.

PHOTOINK has held exhibitions presenting the works of lens-based artists such as Anita Khemka, Ketaki Sheth, Madhuban Mitra, Manas Bhattacharya, Pablo and Richard Bartholomew, Raghu Rai and Vivan Sundaram. In addition, it has also represented the archives and estates of Madan Mahatta, Kanu Gandhi, Prabuddha Dasgupta, and Umrao Singh Sher-Gil. Some of the exhibitions held at the gallery since its inception include Sundaram’s photographic explorations of his installation art (Trash, 2008; Install, 2019); a study of IIT Delhi through the works of Mahatta and architectural photographer Randhir Singh (IIT Delhi: A Modernist Case Study, 2020); Amit Madheshiya’s series on travelling cinemas (The Cinema Travellers, 2017); and digital exhibitions centring the work of Kanu Gandhi and Dileep Prakash. In addition to New Delhi, PHOTOINK has organised exhibitions in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Jaipur as well. It has also curated exhibitions of works by non-Indian photographers, including Roger Ballen, Martin Parr, Lord Snowdon and Samuel Fosso.

PHOTOINK has also published several photobooks in conjunction with its various exhibitions, including books on the photographs of Pablo and Richard Bartholomew (The Way We Were, 2010) and Sheth’s documentation of the Siddi community of India (A Certain Grace: The Sidi, Indians of African Descent, 2013), among others.
