Blindboys
Blindboys is a community-driven online platform exploring and showcasing photography and new visual perspectives from Asia. It was founded in 2009 by filmmaker and photographer Kapil Das and photojournalist Akshay Mahajan, with the aim of creating a platform for like-minded photographers to tell new stories through images.
Blindboys carries a diverse collection of works by young photographers, covering documentary, fine arts, photojournalism and street photography. Photographers and viewers were engaged in creative ways by Blindboys, culminating in public events on streets and through social media. With an exhibition titled BlowUp Bombay (2011), Blindboys showcased over 1,000 photographs by Indian and international artists on a simple red wall in Bandra, Mumbai. This format of collective display, showcasing the works in the public domain, was engaging for the people on the streets. Blindboys did many such public art exhibitions in Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru and Guwahati. The initiative became popular for bridging the local with global, its simplicity and wider accessibility.
