The ritual anointing or bathing of an idol with offerings such as milk, honey, sugar and water. It is practised in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. Within certain Buddhist traditions, it is performed as an initiation rite. Historically, it was also a consecration rite performed at a monarch’s coronation.
