Shunga

Glossary

A dynasty from the Magadha (in present-day Bihar) region that ruled large parts of north, central and eastern India from c. 185 BCE to c. 73 BCE. The dynasty was established by Pushyamitra Shunga. Later Shunga rulers made important artistic and architectural additions to Buddhist structures, such as the Bharhut Stupa and the Sanchi Stupa.
