Western Ganga Dynasty

Western Ganga Dynasty

A dynasty that ruled over parts of southern India, likely from the second or fourth century to the eleventh century CE. The capital of their empire was Talakad (now Talakadu), near Mysuru in present-day Karnataka. While the origins of the dynasty remain unclear, some historians believe its founders may have been feudatories of more powerful empires in the region, such as the Pandyas, Pallavas, Chalukyas and Rashtrakutas. The Gangas rule ended in 1004, after Talakad was captured by the Cholas.
