Gurpurab

Gurpurab

A festival of the Sikh religion, which marks important events in the lives of the Sikh gurus, including birth anniversaries and martyrdoms. The most popular of these festivals celebrates the birth of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, and is celebrated in the Hindu calendar month of Karthik, corresponding to October and November. The term is a compound of two words — purab, meaning “festival” and guru, referring to the Sikh gurus.
