Nayaka

Nayaka

The governors of the Vijayanagara Kingdom, who declared independence after the Battle of Talikota in 1565 CE and they ruled over twenty small pockets in South India till the eighteenth century. The most prosperous among these were the Madurai Nayakas, known for building the Meenakshi Amman Temple, and the Thanjavur Nayakas, who were patrons of art and literature.
