Pala Dynasty

Glossary

A dynasty that ruled over Bengal and Bihar from the eighth to the twelfth century CE, it was established by Gopala and expanded under his successor Dharmapala. The Pala kings were followers of Buddhism and are notable for the distinctive style of sculpture that emerged under their patronage.
