Lyrical Abstraction

Romantic, expressive and abstract paintings made using loose and gestural brushstrokes. The style developed in France and the United States of America in the 1940s and 1950s, within the Art Informel and Abstract Expressionism movements in the aftermath of World War II. Notable artists working in the mode include Wols, Jean-Michel Atlan and Serge Poliakoff.
