Upper Palaeolithic Period

The final stage of the Palaeolithic period, lasting from roughly fifty thousand to twelve thousand years ago. This period was preceded by the Lower Palaeolithic and Middle Palaeolithic periods and was characterised by the emergence and use of sophisticated stone tools.
