Kajli Siyahi

Glossary

A technique associated with the Patna School, where paintings are rendered directly by paintbrush on the surface, without using pencilled sketches to trace the contours of the image. Kalji denotes a fine powder-like compound in lampblack colour, while siyahi means “ink.”
