Mahajanapadas

Mahajanapadas

Sixteen ancient kingdoms and republics across north and north-western South Asia that existed between the sixth and fourth centuries BCE. These kingdoms arose towards the end of the Vedic period (c. 1500 BCE–c. 500 BCE ) and saw the rise of Buddhism and Jainism in India. From the Sanskrit, meaning “the great foothold of the people.”
