Kayotsarga Pose

Kayotsarga Pose

A meditation posture in Jainism, it is frequently observed in artistic depictions of the Tirthankaras (or great teachers) of the religion. It is characterised by a motionless standing posture, unbent knees and straight arms, which are held at the side and do not touch the body. It is representative of an ascetic practice characterised by detachment and the laying down of the physical body.
