Action Painting

Action Painting

A style of abstraction where paintings are produced through vigorous and spontaneous application of paint over the canvas, in sweeping brushtrokes, spills, drippage and splashing. Closely associated with Abstract Expressionism, action painting characterised the work of artists such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline and Arshile Gorky.
