Asaf Jahi Dynasty

Asaf Jahi Dynasty

A dynasty that ruled the kingdom of Hyderabad from 1734 until its deposition in 1948 in independent India. The members of the Asaf Jahi family were erstwhile employees in the Mughal court, and its founder, Mir Qamar-ud-Din Siddiqui, was a Viceroy in the Deccan. With waning Mughal rule in the Deccan, the Asaf Jahi rulers declared independence. Through their rule, they patronised Persianate culture and sponsored literature and art.
