Bangladesh’s national cultural body, centred in Dhaka, with 64 district branches across the country. Its mission to promote Bangladeshi heritage and cultural activities, through publications; grants and other forms of support to artists; events such as festivals, seminars and exhibitions; and awards to art practitioners in recognition of their contributions. It was established in 1974 by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s first prime minister, and is under the national ministry of cultural affairs.
