Established in 1878 in Calcutta (now Kolkata) by Ananda Bagchi and four students of the Calcutta School of Art, it was one of the earliest Indian-run commercial lithographic presses. It primarily sold prints of mythological and religious scenes painted by students of the Calcutta School of Art. Its later corpus also included images of a few political leaders of Bengal. The press continues to function today.
