The sacred symbol of a wheel in Buddhism and Hinduism. In Buddhism, the symbol consists of twenty-four spokes, symbolising the twelve tenets of dharma, and is frequently seen in Ashokan architecture. In some esoteric Hindu traditions, chakras mark points or psychic centres in the body that control the flow of energy. From the Sanskrit word chakra and the Pali word chakka, meaning “wheel” or “circle.”
