Also known as Durga Saptashati, it is one of the foremost texts within the Shaktism tradition and focuses on the Devi (Mother Goddess). The text dates to c. 400–600 CE. Part of the Markandeya Purana, it depicts the goddess in many forms, such as Kali, Stree and the Saptamatrikas. From the Sanskrit compound devimahatmyam, meaning “the magnanimity of the goddess.”
