Film Southasia

Film Southasia

Biennial documentary film festival organised since 1997 in Kathmandu, Nepal by the Southasia Trust, a Nepal-based non-profit organisation. It showcases films from across South Asia along with discussions and workshops, with the aim of promoting them both locally and internationally as well as fostering reflection and action on social realities. Citations and cash prizes are awarded to the best films of each edition in various categories including student films, judged by a changing three-member South Asian jury. The highest award is the Ram Bahadur Trophy, named in honour of a former worker in the royal staff under Nepal’s monarchy and a member of the region’s Tamang community; a photograph of Ram Bahadur holding a video camera is also the basis for Film Southasia’s logo.
