An ancient dynasty from Kashmir that is referred to in the twelfth century CE text Rajatarangini, by the historian Kalhana. The dynasty is believed to have taken its name from the first king of Kashmir, Gonanda I. According to the text, the forty-eighth king of the Gonandiya Dynasty was named Ashoka, who some scholars have identified as the Mauryan emperor Ashoka.
