A group of women significant to the worship of the Hindu deity Krishna, especially when coupled with his consort Radha. Chiefly considered to be a group of 108 women, the gopis are associated with Braj, the site of Krishna’s youth, and are seen as idealised forms of the devoted bhakta (devotee), who combines their bhakti (devotion) with a spiritual love for Krishna.
