An important religious text within Islam, it is a record of the traditions or sayings of the Prophet Muhammad. Its authority is second only to the Quran and is a major source of religious law and moral guidance for followers of the religion. From the Arabic, meaning “statement,” “talk,” “story,” “conversation” or “communication.”
