Museum in London founded in 1798 as the Oriental Repository, to display Indian goods collected by East India Company (EIC) officials. Originally housed at the EIC premises at Leadenhall Street, it was shifted in 1858; in 1879, its collection was divided between the South Kensington Museum, the British Museum, the National History Museum and the Royal Botanical Gardens. The repository formed the basis of the present-day India collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
