Jagannatha Murlidhar Ahivasi (b. 1901; d. 1973) was an Indian artist and teacher active in the first half of the twentieth century. Originally from Mathura, he studied at the Sir JJ School of Art in Bombay (now Mumbai). Deeply influenced by traditional Indian miniature painting and Nathdwara painting, he is considered one of the pioneers of the Bombay Revivalist School, western India’s first modern art movement. He went on to teach painting at the Sir JJ School of Art and was the head of the department until his retirement in 1956. His students include VS Gaitonde, Harkrishan Lal and Shankar Palsikar.
