A form of the Hindu goddess Durga, she is a tutelary deity of the Daitya clan. She is usually described as a nude, disheveled figure who resides in battlefields and frightens the enemy. In texts such as the Bhagavad Purana, she appears as an adversary of Vishnu, from whom she protects her son, the demon Banasura.
