An album containing miniature paintings and calligraphic manuscripts, bound together in the form of a book. The paintings and calligraphy predominantly included illustrations of popular Persian poetry. Mughal emperors Jahangir and Shah Jahan were known for commissioning elaborate illustrated albums in their royal atelier. From the Turkish, Persian and Arabic word murakka, meaning “album.”
