Padshahnama

Padshahnama

The illustrated official history of the reign of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Compiled in the mid-seventeenth century, it contains a large number of Mughal miniatures that were produced in imperial ateliers and depict significant military events as well as moments in the court of the emperor. It includes work by notable artists such as Balchand, Bichitr, Bishan Das and Bhola. There are several versions of the manuscript as distributed folios, which are presently housed across museums including the British Library; Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library, Patna; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Translates to the “Book of Emperors.”
