In the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism, he is the the son of the daitya king Hiranyakashipu and his queen Kayadhu. He is considered one of the greatest devotees, or mahajanas, of the deity Vishnu, who assumes the form of Narasimha to protect him. Prahlada eventually becomes the king of the daityas.
