Pulakesin I (r. 544–567 CE) was a king of the Badami Chalukya dynasty and is considered to be the dynasty’s founder. He is credited with fortifying Vatapi (now Badami), the kingdom’s capital, after gaining victory over the Kadamba dynasty. Also known by the names Vallabeshwara and Srivallabha, he was succeeded by his sons, Kirttivarman I and Mangalesha.
