Also called Bhairavi, meaning “terror” or “awe-inspiring,” she is one of the ten mahavidyas or forms of the mother goddess in Tantric Shaktism. The term tripura signifies the three states of consciousness — awake, dreaming and deep sleep — which she embodies.
