One of the five Tathagatas or the five transcendental Buddhas in Vajrayana Buddhism, Vairochana is a celestial buddha who is considered to be the unmanifested, cosmic aspect of Gautama Buddha. He is often depicted holding the bodhyagri mudra (which denotes the zenith of the universe) and positioned at the centre of mandalas in East Asia.
